Choosing The Right Balance For You

Choosing the correct weighing balance is important for several reasons:

Accuracy: Different types of weighing balances have different levels of accuracy. Choosing the correct balance for the intended application ensures that the measurements are as accurate as possible.

For example, a balance that is precise to the nearest 0.1mg might be necessary for pharmaceutical applications, whereas a balance that is precise to the nearest gram may be adequate for weighing ingredients in the food industry.

Precision: Some balances are designed to measure small quantities, while others are designed to handle larger amounts. Choosing the correct balance ensures that the measurements are precise and the balance can handle the amount of material being weighed. Using the wrong balance can result in inaccurate measurements and wasted materials.

Cost-effectiveness: Choosing the correct balance also ensures that the investment in the balance is cost-effective. Investing in a high-precision balance when a lower-precision balance is adequate can be a waste of resources, while using a low-precision balance for a high-precision application can result in inaccurate measurements and costly errors.

Here at A&D Weighing, we want to make sure you choose the best balance for your application. That’s why we’ve simplified choosing the right balance for you into 3 steps.

How to Choose the Right Balance-The Three R’s

Range

The range of a weighing balance refers to the minimum and maximum weights that the balance can measure accurately. The range is typically expressed in units of weight, such as grams or milligrams.

Our Apollo range has different models ranging from 122g to 32.2kg. For example, the Apollo GX-203A-EC model has a range of 220g. If your application typically requires more than 220g then you’d need to consider a higher capacity model .If an object is placed on the Apollo GX-203A-EC that weighs more than 220g, the balance will not be able to measure the weight at all. This is why A&D Weighing has a range of different balances with different ranges to ensure we can find the correct one for you.

Resolution

Resolution refers to the smallest increment of weight that can be detected and displayed by the balance. It is the degree of precision or accuracy of the weighing balance. The resolution of a weighing balance is determined by the number of digits that appear on the display.

For example, a balance with a resolution of 0.1g means that the balance can detect changes in weight as small as 0.1 grams, and the display will show weight measurements with one decimal place. Similarly, a balance with a resolution of 0.01g means that it can detect changes in weight as small as 0.01g and will display weight measurements with two decimal places.

In general, the higher the resolution of the weighing balance, the more precise and accurate the weight measurement will be. It is important to choose a weighing balance with an appropriate resolution for the intended use, as using a balance with insufficient resolution may result in inaccurate measurements. A&D Weighing offer a variety of balances with different resolutions to choose from.

Requirement

The requirements for a balance depend on the intended use and application. You may require a waterproof balance, an ATEX explosion proof balance, or a Legal-For-Trade balance based on your requirement. In addition, A&D Weighing offer a range of options and accessories to suit a diverse range of applications. For example, density measurement kits, pipettes management solutions, connectivity to LIMS and ELN’s.

Overall, choosing the right balance for you is important because it ensures accurate measurements, it handles the right weight capacity, has the appropriate sensitivity, fits the application, and can save money in the long run.
